The Naturhotel Outside in Matrei is an official hiking hotel in East Tyrol. As such, we offer our guests free guided hikes led by our hiking guides several times a week. Always included: a backpack full of insider knowledge about our beautiful mountain world. By the way: backpacks and hiking poles can be borrowed from the hotel free of charge.
We are located in the Hohe Tauern National Park — the largest protected area in Central Europe. Guests can also take part in a national park ranger tour free of charge: as an official national park partner business, we want to make the uniqueness of the Hohe Tauern National Park tangible and experiential for our guests. We support the Hohe Tauern National Park’s philosophy and commit to its associated quality criteria. Because of this partnership, each guest receives one free national park ranger tour. The rangers are professionals in various fields such as botany, glaciology, wildlife biology, ornithology, or lepidopterology (butterfly studies), and thus provide different perspectives on our natural environment.

The ski lift is 900 m away. A free ski bus runs every 15 minutes. In winter we also offer free guided winter and snowshoe hikes. A national park ranger tour is also included for guests in winter.

With an international background shaped in Innsbruck, Vienna, the Canary Islands, and Australia, Alessa returned to the Alps with clarity and conviction. She stands for sustainable tourism, mindful outdoor experiences, and deep respect for nature and people. Her presence is calm, informed, and forward-looking - and it shapes the tone of the house.
